Make 2014 the Best Year Ever!

As we said good-bye to 2013 recently, I believe most of us spent some time reflecting on the past year. We remembered the highlights and the lowlights, the great events and the not so great ones, the moments we would never forget, and those moments we wish we could forget. But now it’s time to look forward and to plan for the New Year. Let’s not make the same choices (mistakes) and nurture the same (bad) habits of the past year that did not serve us and help us become the best version of ourselves. As Benjamin Franklin said, “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result.”

If you are not the New Years resolution type of person, you could “set goals to be accomplished” to make 2014 the best it can be. I would like to offer four guidelines you can use that will help you in achieving your goals:

  1. Write your goals down in detail. If you don’t, they are just dreams! Be as specific as possible, be it losing weight, getting your grades up at school, participating in an endurance event, or advancing your career.
  2. Review and revisit your plan often! Once you write your goals down, keep your plan handy and accessible, don’t just tuck it in your drawer. Be willing to be flexible as needed, and spend time weekly recommitting to your goals!
  3. Share your goals with others! Studies show that if we let others in instead of keeping our goals to ourselves, we are more successful in achieving them. Accountability and support are both crucial to our success.
  4. Make your physical, emotional and mental health a priority! Get more sleep, make healthy food choices, drink more water, spend less time on social media and more “in person” time with your friends, exercise daily, surround yourself with people who support you, let go of past mistakes, forgive those who wronged you, and practice gratitude daily.

Wishing you an amazing year full of love, special moments and incredible success!
