Ashtanga Yoga
is a physically powerful and challenging practice that uses the breath
to keep the mind drawn inward and focused for a meditative experience.
As a complete mind and body workout, Ashtanga Yoga helps to develop
concentration, reduce stress and loosen muscles. Practicing Ashtanga
Yoga will allow you to develop physical strength, increased endurance
and greater flexibility.
The practice of Ashtanga Yoga is an ancient and powerful discipline
for achieving physical, mental and spiritual health. The Ashtanga practice,
which consists of six progressively difficult series of linked postures,
was developed by Sri. K. Pattabhi Jois of Mysore, India. Each series
unlocks a particular aspect of the body and mind. The primary series
(Yoga Chikitsa) detoxifies and aligns the body. The intermediate series
(Nadi Shodana) purifies the nervous system by opening and cleansing
the energy channels. The four advanced ABCD series (Sthira Bhaga) integrate
the strength and grace of the practice requiring higher levels of flexibility
and humility.
